We recommend wiping the hair clip over with a damp cloth ensuring that you dry it thoroughly.Interlocking the combs
Interlocking the two combs together is really important to stop the clips springing or sliding out. You will know when the clips are interlocked as they are harder to push together and you will probably hear them "click" as they go together. Twist the combs in alternate directions at the top and bottom and don't worry, you wont break them!close
Bent combs
The teeth of our combs are designed to bend so that they interlock securely without breaking. It is ok to straighten the teeth by bending them in the opposite direction. This works better when the clips are warm.close
Fine Hair
When you are putting a clip in fine hair it is better to start from just behind your ear and then stretch the second comb to behind your other ear. This ensures that you have the maximum amount of hair in your clip and makes interlocking them easier. It is very important to interlock the combs with fine hair.VIDEO

Thick Hair
Make sure you push both the combs completely under your style against your head. It helps to ‘wiggle’ the combs as you push them in. Twist the combs to make sure they are interlocked to stop them springing out.There are different sized combs available – please see our size guide.

Layered hair
African Butterfly hair clips are great for layered hair as it is possible to get most of your layers in the clip. To do this it is important to push the combs in right behind your ear then stretch the second comb to behind your other ear catching the layers. Long Hair
Long hair takes plenty of twisting for the “Up Style”. To get it all tucked into the clip fold the hair under itself into a French pleat or twist (sausage shape). With long hair there are lots of different styles you can do – see our style guide for more details.VIDEO

Short Hair
African Butterfly hair clips are great for keeping short hair out of the way or for when you are growing your hair and it gets to that annoying length! They will work even if your hair is not long enough to twist. Simply push the first comb in from behind your ear to catch any layers, push your fingers through the beads to hold your hair and use your free hand to push any short strands into the hand holding the clip. Stretch the second comb over as far as possible and push the clip in.VIDEO

Care for your hair clip
We recommend wiping the hair clip over with a damp cloth ensuring that you dry it thoroughly. The wooden beads may lose their shine if they are put in water.The hair on extensions is best washed in conditioner and left to dry. The hair can be brushed gently and carefully.
